Here’s how life works.
For those of you currently experiencing some sliver of success or are in an upswing professionally:
It ebbs and it flows.
At the time this flier was printed, Defeater was a new band. This is Hell was well-established. Gravemaker had some hype. And PS Eliot was starting to become a more-than-local act. As End of a Year, we had toured through Birmingham a few times and had some fans there.
Now, Defeater is significantly bigger than any of the bands on the bill. This Is Hell has carved out a space for themselves, but has not grown. PS Eliot reached some notoriety before breaking up, with members now reaching a larger audience as Waxahatchee. Gravemaker cooled down. And, as Self Defense Family, we’ve still got a few fans in Birmingham.
I stumbled across this flier and it got me thinking about how some people see the world. They see trajectory and assume there’ll be uniform gravity. They don’t account for wind resistance or whatever other physics shit slows an object down.
